The Truth about Lactic Acid

lactic acid pictureThe Truth about Lactic Acid:Lactic Acid is a by-product of anaerobic metabolism. In the first 2-3 minutes of any cardio exercise, typically you have shortness of breath, possible burning sensations and a feeling of fatigue. Fitness fact or fiction?

1. Crunches are better exercise moves for your abdominals?

Fiction - Most individuals perform crunches that engage their hip flexors and by repeating this pattern you are only strengthening your hip flexors. We need to break free of the myth that doing crunches will help to achieve that "flat stomach" or "washboard abs."

2. You burn more calories during cardio workouts compared to strength training workouts?

Fiction - You boost your metabolism during strength training workouts that last longer than just doing a cardio workout. With strength training, you also increase muscle mass. It is recommended to do cardio workouts after strength training so you can increase your fat burning potential (Metabolic systems include lipolysis and beta oxidation).
