Pubs, The Original Facebook Featured

cheerspubA friendship is not official these days until it's confirmed on Facebook.  There's something wrong with that.  People consider posting hourly updates of the most remedial details of their lives on twitter or facebook as meaningful social interaction. How did this happen?  Where did we go wrong??

Now I'll try not to go into one of those typical cliched rants along the lines of "back in my day..." because this is my day.  I'm a generation X baby.  I'm told because of television, advertising and online social media that I have the attention span of a brick.  It's hard for me to come up with a rebuttle to that, mostly because I've forgotten what we were talking about already.  But, be that as it may I'm still not all that interested in Facebook or Twitter or whatever the latest method is to brag about oneself on a minute to minute basis.

I'll admit that these social media sites do have their uses, such as picture sharing and party invites (or updates).  But, that doesn't require checking the site twenty times every hour.  I want to go back to the time where after work (or school) everyone would meet up at the local pub for drinks and good cheer!  You could actually update your friends in person, face to face all while not being shutup indoors.

The local pub should be a go to place to unwind with friends and bitch about work or wives/girlfriends (or husbands/boyfriends), and not just on a Friday or Saturday night.  So, here's my thought, let's bring back the good ole' days of midweek drinking.  Round up your buddies and head down to your local watering hole and order a pitcher, some pub grub and forget about tomorrow (for a couple of hours at least); rest up then repeat.

Cheers!
