Fantastic Mr. Fox Movie Review

fantastic mr foxFantastic Mr. Fox (2009), an animated movie voiced by George Clooney (Ocean's 11), Merryl Streep (Mamma Mia), Bill Murray (Ghostbusters, Life Aquatic) and Jason Schwartzman (Rushmore) not to mention the many other notable supporting actors.  If that wasn't enough, this little gem of a movie was directed by none other than veteran director Wes Anderson (The Royal Tenenbaums, The Darjeeling Limited).

Anderson tends to work with the same group of actors for most of his movies, but, hey, I can't blame the guy; his lineup of usual suspects is decent to say the least.

For starters, this movie came highly recommended to me, so I was expecting a lot going into it.  I must say that it started off a little slow.  The dialogue was fantastic, but a little awkward at the beginning, however, once you get a feel for each character you'll find it extremely witty and well developed.

Not enough can be said about the animation.  It was unique, fun and very vibrant.  The character movements were exceptional and really added an additional comedic element to the story.

Speaking of the story, it was a little predictable.  The main character, Mr. Fox (George Clooney), is forced to leave behind his life of crime once he finds out he's going to be a father.  Years down the road he finds himself bored and complacent so he secretly starts up his old ways and things promptly go south for him and everyone around him.  It's a tried and true storyline.

Overall, though the story was satisfying and very funny.  Combining that with the unique animation and character development the film is easily worth your time.
